The primary goal of introducing telemedicine services in transfusion medicine is to make transfusion services accessible in smaller hospitals which cannot ensure an adequate number of health care professionals to provide transfusion services generally speaking as well as transfusion services in case of unclear/negative test results, which includes all the hospitals in the Republic of Croatia. Telemedicine services are introduced in transfusion medicine in order to cover different needs of all the hospitals in the Republic of Croatia that perform transfusion medicine, thereby ensuring a more cost-effective use of funds required to organize transfusion medicine and improving the quality of services provided. The Croatian Institute of Telemedicine will ensure a sufficient number of health care professionals in order to cover the needs of telemedicine access centres. The Institute will ensure technical support, telephone communication and an encrypted network infrastructure based on IP/MPLStechnology.
